John A. Minetto State Park

Torrington, CT

This state park is named for John A. Minetto, the "Dean of the Senate", who served 4 two-year terms in the State House of Representatives, and 6 two-year terms in the Senate, retiring in 1966.  John Minetto was also called the Father of Route 8 for the legislation that led to the highway's construction.  He also introduced legislation that created the Hall Meadow Dam Recreation Area, which was renamed John A. Minetto State Park after his death in 1975.  The dams are the responsibility of the Army Corps of Engineers.
