Celebrate Rocky Neck State Park: Trails Day

Thank you to our partners that helped organize this event: Connecticut National Estuarine Research Reserve, The Nature Conservancy, CT DEEP, CT Sea Grant, the Long Island Sound Partnership, and the Niantic Children’s Museum.
Celebrate Rocky Neck State Park with a morning full of trail fun! We’ll have expert-led guided hikes about the plants, geology, and habitats found at the park. We’ll have kid-friendly, family fun activities including scavenger hunts, geocaching, and crafts. You'll also have the opportunity to talk with local environmental organizations about the work they do to keep the water, beach, and forest at Rocky Neck State Park a healthy place to play and explore.
Guided Hikes (registration strongly encouraged)
9:30am – 10:30am: Plants of Rocky Neck State Park, led by Eli Terris (TNC)
Skill level: Easy-moderate (accessible)
Join us for a 0.5-mile hike as we explore the park's plant life. This walk will be fully accessible and last for about 45 minutes. Space is limited, so save your spot by emailing Larissa.Graham@uconn.edu.
10:00am – 11:30am: Trails Day Hike, led by Kim Bradley (CT DEEP)
Skill level: Moderate to challenging
Join us for a 2.5-mile hike that winds the trail system of Rocky Neck State Park, with views of the rocky ledges, marsh, ocean and woodlands. This will be a moderate hike with some challenging sections and will take an hour and a half. Space is limited, so save your spot by emailing Larissa.Graham@uconn.edu.
10:30am – 11:30am: Geology of Rocky Neck State Park, led by Mike Ross (CT DEEP)
Skill level: Easy-moderate (accessible)
Join us for a 0.8-mile hike as we explore the park's geology. This walk will be fully accessible and last for about 45 minutes. Space is limited, so save your spot by emailing Larissa.Graham@uconn.edu.
