James L. Goodwin was a recent graduate of the ‘Yale Forest School’ when he began practicing forestry in Hampton, CT in 1913. In 1964 he donated the 1,765-acre James L. Goodwin State Forest to the people of Connecticut. The State Forest, and Goodwin Conservation Center were donated in part to serve as a hub for the education and demonstration of forestry practices and principles. The DEEP Forestry Division heeds this call and continues applying science based forest management treatments across the property in fulfillment of Goodwin’s mission. Please join the DEEP Forestry Division for a 1.3-mile hiking tour of some recent forest management activities which have taken place 2014 – 2026.
Meet at the Conservation Center before driving out to the trailhead on this guided hike with state lands forester Daniel Evans. Be prepared to hike; program suitable for those 18+ who are equipped to walk the 1.3 mile loop.
