Give a town a library and you feed their curiosity and knowledge for a lifetime.   Down the hill from the homestead, the Naugatuck Valley was booming with the loud, soot-choked, and aggressively competitive world of 19th century manufacturing.  As head of the Osborne & Cheesman Company, Wilbur spent his days managing heavy foundries. But up here, in the quiet sanctuary of his personal library, his textbooks and literature volumes provided an intellectual refuge to maintain balance and stay connected to timeless human ideas amidst industrial chaos.

Attend a special tour at the Osborne Homestead Museum and learn about Major Osborne and the Democratization of Knowledge on Friday, October 30, 2026, at 2:00PM. All age groups are welcome.  To register, call 203-734-2513 or email DEEP.Kellogg@ct.gov.
